EIKAN YANAGI
Calligrapher, Abstract Ink Artist, and Sculptural Form Artist.
Born in Kyoto, Japan, EIKAN YANAGI is a Japanese artist whose practice is rooted in traditional calligraphy while exploring abstract expression through ink and three-dimensional form.
Influenced by modern art and pop art, he works beyond conventional boundaries, developing a distinctive visual language across both two-dimensional and sculptural mediums.
He studied under the calligrapher Eijo Ochi, and established an approach centered on “calligraphy free from formality,” integrating elements of contemporary culture, abstraction, structure, and balance.
Through the movement of line, the depth of ink, and the spatial presence of materials, his work seeks new possibilities that extend beyond the traditional framework of Japanese calligraphy.
