Eikan Yanagi（柳 永環）

Contemporary Artist and Calligrapher.

Born in Kyoto, Japan.

Yanagi began his artistic practice with steel sculpture, later expanding into painting before encountering Japanese calligraphy. Drawing these experiences together, he now develops a distinctive body of work that moves freely between two- and three-dimensional forms.

Rooted in the sensibility of Japanese calligraphy, his practice explores the relationships between line, form, negative space, and structure through a range of materials, including ink, wood, and steel. Emphasizing abstraction and structural beauty, he extends the language of calligraphy beyond its conventional boundaries into the field of contemporary art.

Yanagi studied under calligrapher Eijo Ochi and holds a master-level teaching qualification from Saga Shoin.
